Sprint has released a firmware update for the Samsung Instinct. The update does not update the applications on the Instinct, but rather it prepares the Samsung ROM for application updates which are planned for early August. The much anticipated application updates will include changes to Picture Mail, the web browser, Sprint TV, Sprint Navigation, Sprint Email, Sprint Music Store, Visual Voicemail, Mobile Sync and more. Looks like August will be an eventful and promising month for Instinct owners.

  • Elimination of issues by where data services are disabled without user preference
  • Elimination of NAI corruption upon provisioning if new NAI is shorter than the previous
  • Reflect reoccurring calendar appointments
  • Improved volume – Bluetooth headsets
  • Utilize saved pictures as background image
  • Reduce fluctuation in signal bar and other functions related to RF/Network quality
  • Eliminate “echo” on conference bridge

Discuss the new update in the Instinct forums.

PC World's tests confirm what most Instinct owners already know: the battery lasts for quite a while longer than those of many other so-called Smart Phones. The only phone to have a longer lasting battery, the Apple iPhone, boasts an average of just five minutes more talk-time.

However, the iPhone has no removable battery, so once you reach that threshold, you're done talking; a problem Instinct owners don't have. While iPhone users would be scrambling for a charge after the 5 hours and 38 minutes, Instinct owners need to just flip the cover open and replace the battery with a fresh one and VOILA! You're back to talking for another 5 hours!

Bell today announced it will introduce the Samsung Instinct to Canada on August 8.

Already a hot seller in the United States since its introduction there last month, the sleek and slender Samsung Instinct offers easy touch or stylus navigation on its full QWERTY touch-screen keyboard and extra-large high-resolution display.

The Samsung Instinct will also be available with a wide range of voice and data plans, including the $10 Unlimited Mobile Browser add-on data plan that allows unlimited Internet access.

"We are thrilled to offer Canadians this beautifully designed and intelligent device. Accessing the Internet, listening to downloaded music or satellite radio, watching TV or using it as a GPS system, it's all a real pleasure with the Samsung Instinct thanks to its powerful touch screen and easy interface," said Adel Bazerghi, Vice President, Products for Bell Mobility. "Data pricing plans available with the Samsung Instinct will offer also exceptional value and let clients take full advantage of Bell Mobility's wide range of data services."

The Samsung Instinct will be available for as little as $149.95 on a three-year contract, $249.95 on a two-year contract or $399.95 on a one-year contract. Clients can buy the Samsung Instinct without a term contract for $449.95.
