Samsung Instinct Software Update
Date:
2008-09-05 at 04:12 PM CDT
Sprint will be releasing a new software maintenance release for the Instinct handset with the primary changes focused on the browser.

Version: BH29
Delivery: OTA
Projected Release Date: 9/17 (client initiated) 9/24 (network initiated) Projected Release Dates are best estimates and are subject to change with no notice.

Notes: Instinct firmware BH29 includes the resolution of 249 tickets open since the previous public firmware release, BF30. The release also marks the first public release of the updated Instinct Web Browser, version 1.1. The new browser is based on an entirely new codebase and brings an 10x improvement to rendering speed, most noticeable in the areas of pan/zoom/resize functionality.

New browser features include:
* VC Button -> Hide/show controls; browser controls can be hidden to provide more screen to webpage display
* Favorites enhancements -> Improvements to favorites UI allows for sticky mode lock
* 34 other web browser tickets resolved

Please note the information provided in this update is subject to change.

Thanks
Sprint ADP

I take it this update will not contain the LCDUI fix.

I believe I have read somewhere that the LCDUI update to meet Java specs is going into testing Oct. 13 -ish...

Correct?
Thanks for the 411.

Will this update be automatically sent to the phones or do we have to go somewhere to upload?

You will probably have to check for it manually under the settings menu, then at a later date it will prompt everyone else to update.

Yeah my favorites were deleted as well, i'm guessing they are in the old "format" or something so they weren't compatible....but i'm posting from my instinct and as far as i can tell there is inmproved speed with pan and zoom functions as well as the keyboard is much more responsive (no lag) not sure about texting and such but web typing seems much better.....so far that's what i have noticed, if anyone else knows what else what was improved let us know

This update is good news and a definite improvement.
What I've noticed: (amongst the obvious)
Stereo Bluetooth does a better job of resuming paused songs - it used to hang up before.
Scrolling through songs is more responsive. It doesnt 'run away' like it used to.
You can now use Yahoo's html search text box.

Calculator solved our debt crisis - and figured out how much to leave for a tip.

Honestly, this is a good second step... but this doesnt mean as much to me as getting the LCDUI fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets make this damn device a true competitor and get some applications to run on this thing!!!

Default Update issue 9/25

Just manually downloaded the BH29 update and it has a few tiny issues (so far). I had no network connection (web/TV/music store/email) until I manually rebooted. The phone worked OK. Sprint doesn't tell you to reboot.

The web is now significantly faster (woohoo!). I did lose all of my favorites but the TV seems to be much better, not near as pixelated as before but I don't watch it to often anyways. I have already applied the buffer length hack, raised it to from 4 to 20. So far thumbs up but give it a few days.
